April is National Poetry Month!

This is obviously belated, but hey! Better late than never! (said every procrastinator ever)

My freshman year is winding down - my last day of class is a week from today, but despite the craziness, I decided that I wanted to post here quickly. I have some more posts waiting to be finished - alas, a shitty internet connection means that I've lost more than a few drafts of prospective posts. :/

I wanted to briefly discuss poetry here – not because I don’t think it isn’t worth a longer post, but because I don’t have much knowledge of poetry or poets. As a result of my brief brushes with poetry in high school (and days in college), I have been exposed to a broad selection of poetry (although most are from before 1950)... but I don’t know where to start exploring. My personal knowledge consists of two Robert Frost poems that I have memorized, but I’m pretty sure that just about everyone knows "The Road Not Taken" and "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."

So, for what it’s worth, I wanted to post links to poems that I am fond of – and if anyone has any suggestions of what I should read, please post in the comments! I encourage y'all to take a moment in order to read some poetry - Poets.org has some pretty good resources, if you (like me) don't know where to start looking.

Daddy – Sylvia Plath
The Table – Ted Hughes
Pioneers! O Pioneers! – Walt Whitman

Cheers!
-M
